Thailand offers a wide range of accommodation options, from the flimsiest wooden shack to luxury, five star hotels. Generally, accommodation goes up by as much as a third during the peak tourist seasons and around two or three days before the full moon party on Koh Phangan. Opting for a room with a simple fan and cold water can save a lot of money, whilst luxuries such as power showers, air conditioning and satellite television are often available but don’t come cheap.

Here is an overview of what is available and how much you can expect to pay.

Beach Huts tend to be very rough and ready. If you are looking to save a few baht this might be a good place to hang your hat, although it is a good idea to keep your valuables in a separate safety deposit box – most places offering beach huts also have these. It is a good idea to make sure that your hut comes equipped with a mosquito net as insects come as standard. Prices start from as little as 50 baht per night for the most basic hut away from the beach to 1000 baht for a hut with a bathroom and ocean view.

Tents are another cheap option, especially if you are spending the night in a national park. You can generally get away with paying just 30 baht per night if you have your own tent, or tents can be hired for around 100 baht. Many camp sites have very limited facilities, so it is a good idea to bring your own provisions.

Bungalows are usually found in beach areas. They are generally more comfortable than beach huts as the mattress tends to be thicker and the amount of insects fewer. Most bungalows also have bathrooms, which saves you staggering into a tree in the middle of the night. Prices range from 150 baht for a basic bungalow with a fan and bathroom with cold water to around 500 baht for air conditioning.

River Rafts make an interesting way to view an area, especially if you are staying in a place with stunning scenery such as Kanchanaburi. Most river rafts have large wooden balconies where you can sit and watch the world go by. Expect to pay a minimum of 600 baht for a fan room on the river.

Guesthouses are generally very cheap and cheerful. Many are set up to cater for backpackers and you can get a basic room with a fan and shared bathroom for as little as 100 baht. Most guesthouses serve popular backpacker food such as French fries, pad thai and banana pancakes. They usually have a communal garden or restaurant to chill out in, which can be a good place to meet other backpackers and swap tall tales and travel advice. Most guesthouses do not make a profit from renting out rooms, so it is a good idea to sample one or more of their other services such as food or booking a tour.

Hotels vary dramatically in terms of luxury, facilities and cleanliness. The most basic hotels rooms tend to be very small, have noisy fans and shared bathrooms. Prices start from around 200 baht, whilst the equivalent rooms with air-con start at around 400 baht.

About 20 years ago the tiny island of Koh Samet was still a beachcomber’s paradise, an adventurous destination with no electricity and bare accommodations that offered a pure retreat from Bangkok’s madness.

The good news is that today, amid the luxury resorts and hotels that have been constructed all over Koh Samet, is Ao Nuan. Samet’s smallest bay is an inlet where time seemed to have stood still and only a short stroll away from the busier Ao Tubtim. Ao Nuan is so extremely peaceful and quiet that it could almost be on another planet.

This paradisiacal escape is run by a couple who have been offering basic lodging and meals for tourists for almost two decades. Most of the accommodation units they provide are old and run down, but several have been refurbished recently and feature private bathrooms and toilets.

Not necessary to book in advance here as at Ao Nuan no reservations are taken. You just have to turn up and ask for accommodation. Once you get a room, you can rent it as long as you want, even through a busy public holiday. The units are very basic with limited facilities. The by the ocean positioned “bungalows” are no more than old wooden huts with a few bathrooms and toilets, which guests have to share during their visit.

However, nobody is really worried, as long as they get a shack with a spacious private balcony and full ocean view. Yet, it would not be right to call these shacks by the sea budget accommodation. All travellers get is a rather small room with worn-out mosquito nets, old sheets, a soft sponge mattress on the floor and a short stroll to the toilet in the middle of the night.

Full guide to Central Thailand

Even if you’re willing to cough up the 1,500 baht daily rate for the recently renovated bungalow with attached bathroom, breakfast is not included. Hot water isn’t available either. Those looking for value-for-money amenities shouldn’t come to Ao Nuan. However, those travellers seeking tranquillity and natural beauty, this is definitely the place to stay!

Koh Samet’s Ao Nuan - the perfect getaway…

Ao Nuan is so tiny that visitors feel like the beach is their private garden. Both sides of the beach are lined by huge rocks, providing fantastic perches which to contemplate the blue sea. And the sound of breaking waves on the rocks is like a lullaby, helping visitors drifting to a restful sleep.

Most of Bangkok’s first-time visitors simply select a good hotel establishment either through a travel shop or via the internet without doing some research to figure out what other opportunities are available. Sometimes this might turn out to be a big disappointment for travellers as when they arrive here to realise how much better their hotel could have been for the same, or even less amount of cash. Just make a little time free to investigate what the best deals are before you book your holiday. You should realise what type of accommodation is the best option with regards to your budget.

Because of Thailand’s relatively low living costs, the hotel rates are, in general, significantly lower than similar quality at numerous other tourist hotspots. This absolutely doesn’t reflect on the overall offered standard that, thanks to the Thai people’s natural kindness, is often rather exceptional even at the market’s lower end. Below is a helpful and useful guide explaining what holidaymakers can expect from the accommodation they wish to book.

First-class
Thailand ranks steadily among the world’s top holiday destinations. The country boasts some of the best hotel establishments on the globe such as the internationally acclaimed Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok or Phuket’s first-class Amanpuri with its superb private beach area. Obviously these kinds of lodging establishments aren’t aiming at backpackers and, although pricy by the standard of many travellers, compared with similar European and American hotels they still offer the cheapest rates. Thai hospitality is certainly one field in which the country usually exceeds other countries’ standards. With the renowned cuisine, friendly smiles and exceptional politeness and service no-one can beat the Thais with making a foreign guest feel special and comfortable. Combining excellent services, good rates and the sometimes jaw-dropping locations these establishments are blessed with, have made spending a holiday in Thailand one of the favoured choices for international honeymooners.

Premium
The Thai owned and managed up-market establishments usually offer high levels of comfort at surprisingly low rates. Expect outstanding guestrooms in wonderful or at least ideal settings for much lower prices than similar hotels in most other nations. In this class you shouldn’t experience any difficulties finding an excellent hotel. Some of these venues can even rival the first-class establishments particularly in the hospitality field. However, it is highly recommended to read guest reviews and browse the better hotel booking websites as in this price range there are a number of over-priced hotels as well.

Tourist-class
In this price range you can get some great deals. Most of these are small independent accommodation establishments that mostly have everything a guest should need. Usually they’re facilitated with amenities such as satellite TV, bar & restaurant, air-conditioning, garden and swimming pool. In this category there are numerous hotels and guesthouses available while many offer well appointed rooms with service-driven staff. However, I’ll say it again you should take time to read the customer reviews and investigate several of the better booking services on the web.

Budget
If what you are looking for is just a place to sleep than it is possible to stay in a clean guestroom with a fan for around 350 baht a night. For a rate just a little higher, depending on where and when you stay it may still be possible to get, in a small hotel, a comfortable air-conditioned guestroom. Perhaps there’s even a swimming pool available.

On the web there are many quality hotel online booking services but there is one I truly can recommend. The wide range of different types of hotels and guesthouses listed on 1stopbangkok will make it very easy for each kind of holidaymaker to find a suitable and affordable room in Bangkok. In addition, this reputed and long-established booking service offers discounted online hotel rates!

Today fleeing Bangkok is a toss-up between expensive petrol prices and the need for a laid-back weekend. The latter consideration normally wins, thanks in large part to splendid destinations such as the Suan Phung district in Ratchaburi.

It’s two hours away, but hey, that’s only going to cost you 50 litres of gasoline. The charming hilly area features several resorts, starting with the mammoth Phupha Phueng at the mouth of the small road following a route to Khao Chone Waterfall. Ratchaburi travel information

The Scenery Resort and Farm comes next, which impresses visitors with its white bungalows set amidst lush forests and lawns kept trimmed by grazing goats. Our destination is within less than two miles from Scenery: For budget-minded travellers looking for a peaceful, green landscape, Baan Suan Hong Hern offers ideal lodging options.

All of the resort’s guest accommodations are air-conditioned, which is truly a benefit in this notoriously hot area. Once settled in, get yourself a pillow and mat and head out back to clean, clear stream. A walk along its smooth-gravel bed – or just paddling your feet from the bank – is wonderfully revitalising. But go on and get soaked to the bone – there’s no soul around.

The resort’s on-site restaurant is also recommended. The menu is not really special, but all the dishes are delicious. You can enjoy drinking a few cold beers in the small dining zone and walk to your room without fear of an accident.

Truly a fascinating metropolis and the country’s capital, Bangkok is a much visited tourist destination with millions of international visitors travelling to this pulsating place year-round. If you might have plans to explore Bangkok, then, there are some essential travel tips to keep in mind helping you to enjoy an unforgettable holiday

As for the most ideal visiting time, Bangkok can be visited any time that suits you the best. However, try to avoid visiting this hectic city in April because the heat might reach unbearable temperatures. Between July and October there’s a change that heavy rainfall may have a negative effect on the quality of your voyage. The period between December and August is probably the best time to visit Bangkok. During this period Bangkok welcomes the most visitors but if you want to escape from the huge crowds you may wish to visit the city in September, May or June.

Knowing how to get the best food is another main concern for travellers visiting an unfamiliar destination. The tourist guides or locals in Bangkok would happily assist you in where to find the city’s tastiest food spots. In the Thai capital you’ll certainly find the finest and tastiest dishes of your choice. Bangkok features a wide and varied range of national as well as international gourmets and cuisines. Apart from the restaurants you can also sample some of the mouth-watering Thai cuisine at one of the many street stalls who serve very cheaply priced and nutritious rice and noodle dishes. Bangkok travel facts

Finding a suitable place to spend the night is another thing you won’t have to worry about. Bangkok is crammed with good guesthouses, hostels, serviced apartments, hotels and resorts. Some of the most reputable names include: the Artist’s Place, the Grand Hyatt Erawan, Majestic Suites and the Landmark Hotel.

Be impressed by the famous Thai hospitality of the Bangkokians while you enjoy your stay in the best first-class hotels which are internationally acclaimed for their competitive rates and exclusive suites. Another great thing about ‘the city of angels’ is that you can find plenty of ATM services conveniently positioned throughout the entire metropolis.

OK, so you did choose Thailand as your next holiday destination, great choice! Probably you would like to stay a few days in Bangkok to absorb some of the thriving metropolis’ fascinating culture. However, you still didn’t book your most suitable accommodation in the Thai capital. Your choice of a good hotel establishment should be based on your personal travel plans. Perhaps you only want to experience the city’s pulsating nightlife, or mainly spend time shopping until you drop. Another activity might be visiting all of the city’s principal tourist attractions by one of the offered sightseeing tours.

For some of the city’s finest shopping it is recommendable to book a hotel in the area of Siam Square. At this location you’ll find an abundance of little outlets. Also positioned here are the shopping paradises of Siam Discovery and the Siam Center. These two malls mainly feature up-market brand label stores. Visitors who at the of the day are exhausted because of all the shopping have the great option to relax in the extremely comfortable chairs, available in Siam Discovery Center’s movie theatre. The modern and spacious cinema is located on the top floor.

Siam Discovery Center

Situated within less than a 15-minute walk from Siam Square is another superb shopping complex. You can find this mall nearby Mahboonkrong. It is a great place for purchasing a wide range of inexpensive goodies. You should not forget to bargain here! Both areas can easily and quickly be reached by the Skytrain.

If visiting regions outside of Bangkok is on top of your list than it is advisable to book a hotel room near the brand new and ultra-modern Suvarnabhumi International Airport. For the true party animal, who mainly visits Bangkok to experience some wild nights by diving into the world’s most exciting nightlife scene, there are several other suitable areas to stay. Hotels located in the areas of Suriwongse Rd and Silom offer the most suitable lodging for travellers who mainly wish to hang around Patpong Rd and the naughty Soi Cowboy area.

Bangkok’s nightlife is legendary!

Downtown Bangkok is crammed with four and five-star rated hotel establishments, which might make it difficult to pick the best facility. Backpackers and travellers on a budget will find a range of sufficient lodging options as well. There are plenty of available hostels, guesthouses and tourist-class hotels. However, the best way is to pre-book Bangkok accommodation online. Usually you will benefit from discounted online rates. Today, hotel booking procedures via the internet are easy, reliable, safe and safe you a lot of valuable time as well.
