Located at 273 Charoenkrung Soi 43, the Bangkok Folk Museum is located inside a family home that has been opened to the public. Those who venture inside will be able to glimpse the previous life and times in Thailand. Actually incorporating the Bangrak Museum too it is three wooden houses that span the 1800’s up to the 1930’s. Being of wooden construction they are quite a rarity in themselves. It wasn’t until 1992 that they were converted into a museum and treasured for their reflection of times past.

Inside the Folk Museum you can find traditional household utensils, antiques, the original toilet, a grandfather clock, a piano, plus many other things that made up a middle class family home at the time of the Second World War. You can get a guided tour from the daughter of the original owners, who lives in the 4th building in the group, the maximum group number is 20. Contact Mrs Waraporn Surawadee on +66 (0)2 233 7027 Mon-Fri 09.00 – 17.00 if you wish to make a booking for a tour.

You will find most of not all items are labelled in clear English and has a very professional feel of a curator that not only knows about these times but has taken time to given good descriptions to their background and classification, something that is generally found in much larger museums.

You can find this museum on Soi Charoen Krung 43 – one of the oldest streets in Bangkok, Bangrak, not far from the Central Post Office. The closest Express Boat stop is the Si Phraya Pier.

Admission is free, open Mon-Fri 10.00am – 17.00pm
