Street food in Bangkok

There are still many Westerners who assume that the food served by the street stalls across Bangkok is dirty and eating it would definitely make you sick and ruin your holiday. However, this is really nonsense as the majority of the street vendors prepare the meals they offer in a hygienic way. After all they benefit from a good reputation.

If you are more of a culinary adventurous traveller and you don’t mind eating like the Bangkokians do than this tip might be useful. If you have spare time, head to the Silom district. Here you will find nearby the night market at Patpong night this friendly street food vendor who usually sets up his small stall around 17:30 in the evenings. He is not even finished setting up his business when many hungry customers are already cueing up to make their take-away orders. The cook and owner speaks Chinese and reasonable English as well.

At his stall, surrounded by a pleasant aroma, you have the choice between either pork solely and pork meat with several added pig’s intestines. The plain rice is not really hot but the stew that goes is still hot. If you decide to eat your meal on-the-spot the always smiling owner serve you free of charge ice-cold water.

The tables are kept clean all the time and are covered with nicely decorated tablecloths. The prices for the meals are only: 35-40 baht per served amount. The portions may be rather small but you always can order a second plate. Probably the portions are small because the Thais usually eat four or five times per day. Enjoy your meals!
