If it is not that late yet, you might enjoy dinner at Sphinx, situated nearly at the end of the soi. This peaceful, romantically lit eatery is rather popular among senior gay travellers and their much younger Thai company. However, the served Thai as well as international dishes are truly mouth-watering.

The more general program is to have your meal elsewhere and take the first beverage around 21:00. The well-established, reputed and most spacious gay venues are probably the Balcony and Telephone. Across the soi, looking each other in the eye like wise, matured and experienced drag queens, these popular entertainment establishments draw customers coming from all over the world.

Positioned nearby are the relatively new trendy Roxy, and well-known gay friendly bars such as Home, Tapas and Café Four.
Many might think of it as a typical stereotype but here it is certainly reality and you’ll see many aging Western gays accompanied by very young Thai (not always gay) boys.

The majority of the Thais are in their mid-twenties while their Western friends are usually older than 50, off course there are also exceptions. Most of the handsome Thai boys tend to be gorgeously slim. The fully-equipped fitness centre California on Silom Rd, is often visited by these fanatic gym bunnies. Their well-shaped pectorals and biceps will probably impress you too!

Due to Bangkok’s year-round hot climate, you’ll notice that the only persons who are often overdressed are the lady boys, who in Thai language are known as ‘Kathoeys’, which is an insulting name for them. Popping in and out of the pubs, the majority of these ladies are she-males and many eagerly try to save an amount of money so they can have their much desired sex-change operation.

About 23:00, the exodus really starts as the crowds find their way to D J Station or Freeman, the city’s solely gay Western-style nightspots. You can find D J in Soi 2 while Freeman is positioned halfway between 2 and 4, along its private Soi. Both venues offer a half hour lasting performance with sensual dancers and perfectly play backing ladyboys. The quality of the performances is slightly higher in Freeman, which also houses a darkroom on the third-floor. However, the played music tracks in D J are much trendier. A large part of the crowd consists out of partly-undressed males after midnight…
