Hua Hin, oldest beach resort in Thailand

Situated about 155 miles from Bangkok, the beautiful seaside town of Hua Hin can be found in the Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan. This popular holiday destination enjoys an ideal geographical position on the Gulf of Thailand’s western shoreline.

This tourist hot spot was once a dull fishing village. However, today the seaside resort boasts an outstanding tourist infrastructure attracting both the elite and crowds of more regular holidaymakers. Travellers who are looking for bustling city life scenes and a wide range of pulsating nightclubs are recommended not to spend their holiday in Hua Hin. This is truly a destination for those who appreciate serenity, panoramic views, strolling along idyllic alleys and mouth-watering (seafood) culinary delights.

It was about 90 years ago when the beginning of the transformation into a first-class seaside resort took place. It al started with the construction of a train station, which resulted in Hua Hin becoming one of the railway stops along the important Southern Railroad. Later the ruling King Rama VI, choose Hua Hin as the location for his summer palace, which also resulted in the town’s decrease of popularity.

Not much later several other royal residences were built here and due to this development the town became known as Thailand’s first seaside resort. Today the resort enjoys the reputation being one of Thailand’s most sophisticated but the typical peaceful and charming atmosphere remained authentic.

The more than three miles long main Hua Hin Beach is undoubtedly the principal attraction. Certain areas of this spacious beach are fringed with many pine trees while positioned at Khao Takiab is the renowned Buddhist temple complex. However, the town and surrounding area also represent impressing shrines of historical interest, magnificent parks, fabulous palaces, and a lively market (Chatchai market). Tourists may enjoy a revitalising Thai massage, exciting jet-ski trips or explore the area by horse.

When it comes to tourist attractions and sights, mentioned below are Hua Hin’s must-see features:

Ordered by King Rama VI, the Maruekhathaiyawan Palace was constructed almost a century ago. The palace is absolutely an architectural masterpiece, featuring numerous verandas. Golden teak, which was taken from the demolished Palace Hat Chao Samran, was used to construct the enclosed boardwalks.

The historic railway station in Hua Hin is famous for being the first operational transport hub of its kind in Thailand. Especially a must-see for railway buffs!

In 1927 King Rama VII ordered the construction of the Klai Kangwon Palace, which was a gift for his Queen Rampai Phanee. Today, members of the royal family still reside here now and then.

Visitors have the option spotting some fantastic wildlife within the borders of the Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. This area still houses animals such as the barking deer, Asian antelopes and many bird species.

The Panee Butterfly Farm can be found within a short distance from the Klai  Kangwon Palace. The facility houses a comprehensive collection of beautiful butterflies, orchids and birds. This is a fun-filled attraction for the entire family!

Thailand’s most spacious natural park is known as Kaeng Krachan National Park. Some of the park’s inhabitants include: (rare) tigers, bears, deer and wild Asian elephants.

Two other impressing sights which should not be missed are the Khan Luang Cave, housing the famed Buddha statue and the fascinating Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park. Boasting all these worthwhile features and a full set of options to enjoy a fine selection of adventurous activities, Hua Hin attracts holidaymaker from every corner and nook of our planet. Hence, this pleasurable, laid-back and friendly town has accommodation on offer to suit each traveller’s budget and taste.
